The Nigerian Army’s 8th Division has successfully neutralized a notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Kallamu, in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. According to a military source, the operation was a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the Northwest region.
Kallamu, a trusted lieutenant of the infamous terror leader Bello Turji, was eliminated in a coordinated offensive carried out by troops of the 8 Division, in collaboration with local vigilante teams. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Monday, also resulted in the neutralization of one of Turji’s top logistics suppliers in the Kurawa village area.
The mission was described as swift and precise, targeting a critical supply chain that sustained terror activities in the region. Kallamu, a native of Garin-Idi in Sabon Birni, had been a major threat to residents in the eastern Sokoto corridor, with his deadly operations allegedly causing widespread fear, displacement, and insecurity.
Intelligence reports indicate that Kallamu had resurfaced in the region after fleeing a previous military operation in June 2025, during which he took refuge in Kogi State to evade arrest. The military source praised local communities for providing actionable intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in defeating terrorism.
The neutralization of Kallamu has brought relief to residents across Sabon Birni, with the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, joining citizens in celebrating the long-awaited justice for innocent victims of banditry in the state. The operation is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore security and stability in the region, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of residents in Sokoto State.
