Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted allegations of sidelining certain members of the State House of Assembly and loyalists of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. During the commissioning of the Ahoada-Omoku Road extension in Ahoada West, Fubara addressed the claims, stating that reports of him shutting out political stakeholders were entirely false.
Fubara recently visited President Bola Tinubu, which sparked speculation about the purpose of the meeting. However, the governor clarified that the visit was solely focused on state matters, aiming to promote the interests of Rivers State. He emphasized that he has no disagreements with members of the National Assembly or state lawmakers, stressing that his goal is to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
According to Fubara, efforts have been made to convene a reconciliation meeting with the lawmakers, but the meeting has yet to be scheduled. He explained that party leaders, including Minister Wike, were supposed to arrange the meeting, but it has not been fixed as of now. The governor described claims that he refused to meet with the lawmakers as untrue, reiterating that he has no reason to exclude any stakeholder from the political process.
The governor’s statement comes amidst ongoing discussions about the relationships between state officials and federal authorities. As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, governors like Fubara are working to balance state interests with national priorities. By addressing the allegations directly, Fubara aims to reassure stakeholders that his administration is committed to collaboration and open communication.
The development of infrastructure projects, such as the Ahoada-Omoku Road extension, remains a key focus for the Rivers State government. As the state continues to grow and develop, the governor’s ability to work effectively with various stakeholders will be crucial in addressing the needs of the population and driving progress. With the reconciliation meeting still pending, it remains to be seen how the relationships between Fubara, the lawmakers, and other stakeholders will unfold in the coming weeks.
