Oracle’s stock fell more than 10% on Wednesday after the company reported revenue that missed analysts’ expectations, even though net income rose sharply. The Texas‑based business computing giant posted a net income of $6.1 billion and revenue of $16.05 billion for the quarter, a 14% increase year over year. Its cloud and business computing unit contributed $8 billion of that revenue, up 34% from the same quarter in 2024.

Chief executive Mike Sicilia emphasized the central role of artificial intelligence in Oracle’s growth strategy, noting that “AI training and selling AI models are very big businesses.” He added that embedding AI across the company’s product portfolio represents an even larger opportunity. Nevertheless, investors remain wary of the massive spending by tech firms on AI models and infrastructure, questioning when those investments will generate returns. Oracle has taken on substantial debt to fund its AI infrastructure and is considering additional borrowing.

The company also announced new partnerships with AI chip makers and model developers, including OpenAI and Meta. Founder and chief technology officer Larry Ellison highlighted Oracle’s commitment to “chip neutrality,” working with all CPU and GPU suppliers to stay agile as AI technology evolves. After the earnings release, Oracle’s shares dropped 10.7% to $199.50 in after‑market trading.

Oracle’s significant investments in AI infrastructure and its collaborations with key industry players underscore its determination to remain at the forefront of this rapidly evolving technology. As the AI landscape continues to shift, the company’s ability to adapt and innovate will be crucial to its future success. With a focus on embedding AI in its products and maintaining chip neutrality, Oracle is well positioned to capitalize on growing demand for AI solutions.
