NAOSS distances self from 'illegal election', says it was conducted by impostors

The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has declared the election held on Thursday to swear in new executive members illegal. In a statement issued by NAOSS’s Legislative Arm, it was noted that the election was conducted by impostors without the supervision or approval of the duly constituted Convention Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman. The CPC Chairman, who was appointed by the Legislative Arm, was absent from the election process, rendering the results invalid.

The statement further explained that the individuals who organized the election used fake senators to create a semblance of legitimacy. It also revealed that the purported president and several other aspirants are already graduates, making them ineligible to contest under NAOSS rules. Additionally, the Legislative Arm expressed concern over the reappearance of the mace, which had previously been declared missing. The mace was found in the possession of the perpetrators, and any gathering in which it is used is deemed unconstitutional and illegal.

Consequently, the Legislative Arm has declared the election null, void, and of no effect, stating that it lacks legitimacy, recognition, or authority within NAOSS. The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force intervened to halt the election process, and NAOSS commended the police’s swift action. The intervention prevented disorder and protected the association’s integrity, and the Legislative Arm praised the police’s proactive approach and commitment to upholding the rule of law.

NAOSS is scheduled to hold another election on Saturday, 13 December 2025, under the supervision of the legally constituted Convention Planning Committee. The association has called for sustained vigilance and collaboration with the police command to prevent future disruptions or chaos. The Legislative Arm reiterated its commitment to safeguarding NAOSS’s integrity and upholding its constitution. With the upcoming election, the association aims to ensure a legitimate and peaceful process, with the police command playing a crucial role in maintaining order and stability.
