Lagos govt begs medical doctors to suspend three-day warning strike

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD‑FCTA) has expressed appreciation for Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike’s implementation of several union demands. This acknowledgment follows a series of strike actions the association launched to press for improved welfare and working conditions.

Dr. George Ebong, president of ARD‑FCTA, praised the minister’s efforts as commendable, despite the many challenges facing healthcare professionals in the FCT. He made these remarks during an outreach program at the Durumi Area 1 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, where the association provided free healthcare services and medical supplies to those in need.

Emphasizing the association’s commitment to vulnerable populations, Dr. Ebong said, “Our primary duty as doctors is to save lives, and we will continue to provide free healthcare services to those who need it most.” The outreach program is part of ARD‑FCTA’s broader effort to positively impact the community and alleviate the suffering of IDPs.

While acknowledging the progress made, Dr. Ebong urged the FCTA to expedite the implementation of outstanding issues, including improved welfare packages for doctors. The association had recently suspended its latest strike action, pending full implementation of its demands.

The implementation of the union’s demands marks a significant development, expected to enhance working conditions and morale among FCT doctors, which could translate into better patient outcomes and overall healthcare services in the territory. ARD‑FCTA’s appreciation for the minister’s efforts represents a positive step toward resolving lingering issues and strengthening the partnership between the association and the FCTA.

As the association awaits the completion of outstanding demands, it remains committed to delivering quality healthcare services to the community, especially to those most in need.
