Emir Cracks Down on Teacher Absenteeism in Yobe Schools

The Emir of Gudi in Yobe State, Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed Gadaka, has embarked on a personal inspection tour of schools in his domain, aiming to address issues of absenteeism and neglect. The monarch’s move is part of efforts to ensure that government investments in education are utilized effectively and to identify challenges that his council can help resolve.

During the inspection, the Emir expressed concern over the growing trend of teacher absenteeism, citing instances where schools with significant government investment had no teachers present. He warned teachers that their personal programs should not interfere with their official duties, which run from Monday to Friday. The Emir emphasized that government work requires full commitment during working hours.

The traditional leader also criticized parents who prioritize sending their children to farms instead of school, stressing that every parent has a responsibility to ensure their children receive an education. He cautioned that he would not tolerate any negligence in this regard. To address these issues, the Emir has directed village and district heads to regularly monitor schools within their areas, ensuring that teachers, parents, and community leaders are held accountable for their roles in education.

The Emir’s inspection tour and directives are significant, given the importance of education in the region. Yobe State has faced challenges in ensuring access to quality education, particularly in rural areas. The Emir’s efforts aim to improve educational outcomes and address systemic issues that hinder the effective utilization of government investments in education. By holding stakeholders accountable and promoting a culture of responsibility, the Emir hopes to enhance the quality of education in his domain. The success of these efforts will depend on the sustained commitment of teachers, parents, and community leaders to prioritize education and work together to address the challenges facing the sector.
