Emir Sanusi promotes peace and interfaith harmony in Nigeria

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, security, and inter-religious harmony in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole. He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Executive members and Elders of the Kano State Chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to his palace in Kano.

Sanusi, who reflected on his early exposure to Christian education, noted that attending a Catholic school as a young man helped shape his appreciation for religious coexistence. He emphasized the importance of religious leaders intensifying prayers for sustained harmony, particularly in light of recent security concerns affecting some border communities. The Emir called for continued interfaith cooperation, highlighting the role of religious leaders in fostering unity and stability at both state and national levels.

The Kano State Chairman of the PFN, Rev. Elkanah Enweluzor, stated that the visit was aimed at identifying with the Emir’s leadership and his consistent efforts at sustaining peace in the state. Sanusi expressed appreciation for the Peace Award presented to him by the PFN, assuring them of his continued support and openness to engaging with Christian communities in the state.

The Emir’s commitment to inter-religious harmony is significant, given the diverse religious landscape of Nigeria. His leadership has been instrumental in promoting peaceful coexistence among different religious groups in Kano State. The visit by the PFN delegation underscores the importance of collaboration and dialogue between religious leaders in promoting peace and stability.

The security concerns affecting some border communities in Nigeria highlight the need for sustained efforts to promote inter-religious harmony and cooperation. The Emir’s call for intensified prayers and interfaith cooperation is a timely reminder of the critical role religious leaders play in fostering unity and stability. As Nigeria continues to navigate its complex religious and security landscape, the commitment of leaders like Sanusi to promoting peace and harmony is crucial.
