Afreximbank awards Hassan Allam $250m construction contract

Cairo, Egypt – 14 December 2025: Hassan Allam Construction, a subsidiary of Hassan Allam Holding, has secured a significant contract worth USD 250 million to build the African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank) African Trade Centre. The centre, which will also serve as the bank’s new headquarters, will be located in Egypt’s New Capital. The project’s stone-laying ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Egyptian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Afreximbank President Dr. George Elombi, and Central Bank of Egypt Governor H.E. Mr. Hassan Abdalla.

The comprehensive development will feature the main Afreximbank headquarters building, a 110-room hotel, six residential villas, and various modern trade-supporting facilities. These include a trade information centre, library, innovation and SME incubation centre, business centre, corporate museum, conference centre, exhibition centre, and retail outlets. The complex will also have extensive back-of-house and support facilities, as well as a 1,200-bay parking structure. The contract encompasses full civil works, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, landscaping, and the supply and installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

The African Trade Centre is designed to be a green, sustainable project, reflecting Afreximbank’s and Hassan Allam Holding’s commitment to environmentally responsible built environments. The development aims to facilitate trade, policy dialogue, and collaboration across the continent. Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, emphasized the company’s shared belief with Afreximbank in the power of infrastructure to unlock Africa’s economic potential.

Dr. George Elombi, President of Afreximbank, noted that the African Trade Centre will address the lack of trade and investment information among African businesses, a challenge that has hindered intra-African trade and investment for decades. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months, creating approximately 8,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and 1,000 jobs during the operational phase.

This collaboration between Hassan Allam Holding and Afreximbank demonstrates their commitment to advancing transformational initiatives across the continent. The project reinforces the significance of infrastructure development, sustainability, and economic transformation in Africa. With a shared vision for the continent’s growth, both institutions have repeatedly demonstrated their dedication to supporting high-impact projects through successive financing rounds, structured guarantees, and joint investments.

The African Trade Centre is a landmark project that will serve as a catalyst for trade collaboration and opportunity across Africa. As a symbol of the continent’s economic potential, the centre will facilitate policy dialogue, trade, and investment, driving growth and development in the region. With its completion, the centre is expected to play a vital role in promoting intra-African trade and investment, ultimately contributing to the continent’s economic transformation.
