Nigerian celebrity auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, known as IVD, has been discharged and acquitted of complicity in the death of his late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna. The acquittal was announced on December 15, 2025, after a three‑year legal battle with Bimbo’s family, who had accused him of causing her death.
The case began in October 2022 when Bimbo died from injuries sustained in a fire at their Lagos residence, an incident allegedly linked to domestic violence. In March 2023, IVD was arraigned by the Lagos State Government and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was released on bail but rearrested on August 1, 2025, while traveling to Qatar ahead of his wedding to his new partner, Blessing CEO.
Blessing CEO, a self‑styled relationship expert, announced IVD’s acquittal on her Instagram page, urging followers to leave toxic marriages or relationships. She praised the Nigerian justice system, saying it still works and expressing pride in the country.
The case attracted widespread attention and sparked debate about domestic violence and the justice system in Nigeria. The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions had rearrested IVD in August 2025, but the court has now cleared him of all charges. His acquittal underscores the importance of a justice system that delivers verdicts based on evidence and highlights the need to address domestic violence and promote healthy relationships.
As IVD begins to rebuild his life, his case serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges of Nigeria’s justice system.
