Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has announced a significant weakening of terrorist groups, bandits, and other criminal networks across the country. Speaking at the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2025, Musa attributed this development to the bravery of troops, improved operational planning, and effective joint operations.
The conference, held at Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks, in Lagos State, provided a platform for the Nigerian Army to review its operational posture and align future strategies with national security priorities. Musa emphasized the importance of unity of effort, joint operations, intelligence sharing, and coordinated planning among security agencies to tackle the complex security challenges facing Nigeria.
The minister described the conference as a critical strategic forum, particularly given the evolving security environment in the country. Nigeria continues to confront various threats, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and transnational crime, which require sustained strategic focus and adaptive leadership.
Musa noted that maintaining peace and stability is a key pillar of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Ministry of Defence will continue to provide strategic direction, policy support, and capability development to ensure the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain professional and responsive.
The minister paid tribute to wounded personnel and their families, acknowledging their sacrifices and reaffirming their welfare and medical care as a top priority. He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, for his operational experience and called for continued innovation and proactive strategies to address emerging security threats.
The significant weakening of terrorist groups and criminal networks in Nigeria marks a notable achievement in the country’s efforts to enhance national security. As the government continues to prioritize peace and stability, the Ministry of Defence will play a crucial role in providing strategic direction and support to the Armed Forces. With the country facing various security challenges, the need for sustained strategic focus, adaptive leadership, and clear purpose remains paramount.
