Plateau Governor Dumps PDP for APC

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to his Senior Political Adviser, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat. In an interview with journalists in Abuja, Nwansat confirmed that the necessary arrangements for the governor’s move to the APC are being finalized, and an official announcement is imminent.

Nwansat attributed the governor’s decision to the ongoing crisis and instability within the PDP, which has rendered the party an unreliable platform for political contests. He stated that Mutfwang’s move to the APC is driven by his desire to align the state with the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu. This decision is expected to harmonize the state’s governance with the president’s political trajectory.

The governor’s decision to join the APC is reportedly based on a thorough assessment of available options, which indicated that this move carries the least risk factor. Nwansat emphasized that Mutfwang believes it is reasonable for him, as a leader, to align his state with the federal government, given the efforts made by President Tinubu to address the country’s challenges.

As a member of the PDP, Plateau State has been acknowledging the initiatives undertaken by the president, despite their differences in party affiliation. Mutfwang’s impending defection to the APC is likely to have significant implications for the state’s political landscape and its relationship with the federal government.

The move is expected to be made public soon, as the governor and his team are addressing the remaining bottlenecks. This development highlights the ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political parties, as politicians navigate the complexities of the country’s governance and electoral landscape. With the governor’s decision to join the APC, Plateau State is poised to embark on a new political path, one that is likely to shape the state’s future and its interactions with the federal government.
