Nigeria Air Travel Costs Too High Says DNKI President

DNKI President, Alban calls for reduction in airfares, laments poor road infrastructure

The International President of De Norsemen Kclub International, Aniekanabasi Paulinus Alban, has urged the Federal Government and airline operators to reduce the high cost of air travel in Nigeria. Alban made this call at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, following the DNKI Zonal Stakeholders’ Meeting. He emphasized that the current fares are exacerbating financial pressure on families, particularly during the Christmas season when many Nigerians are preparing to travel.

The DNKI President noted that the burden of exorbitant flight costs is troubling, as it adds unnecessary stress and financial pressure on households. He described the current airfares as “simply too high and unsustainable” for the average Nigerian. Alban also expressed concern about the poor state of federal roads, which he believes contributes to the hardship faced by commuters. He pointed out that journeys that would take 45 minutes by air can take almost a day by road, exposing travelers to risks, delays, and exhaustion.

Alban called on relevant authorities to address the nation’s road infrastructure challenges, stressing that efficient transportation is critical to economic growth, national cohesion, and citizens’ wellbeing. He reaffirmed DNKI’s core values of service, compassion, and brotherhood, announcing that the organization would intensify its humanitarian outreach during the Christmas season. The organization plans to support widows and children of deceased members, as well as less privileged members of society.

DNKI will provide relief and support to those in need, in line with its tradition of caring for its own. The International President encouraged all DNKI state chapters to participate in community-based humanitarian initiatives during the festive period. He urged them to “put smiles on the faces of the less privileged” and reminded them of their shared humanity and responsibility to one another.

The call for reduced air travel costs and improved road infrastructure comes as Nigerians prepare for the Christmas holidays. With many families already facing economic hardship, the high cost of travel is a significant concern. The DNKI’s humanitarian efforts aim to provide some relief and support to those in need during this period. As the organization continues its outreach, it remains to be seen whether the government and airline operators will respond to the call for reduced air travel costs and improved infrastructure.
