NAFDAC Warns Against Indomie Noodles Consumption Due to Undeclared Allergens

Two suspects arrested over altered product expiry dates in Jos - NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians against consuming Indomie Noodles (Vegetable Flavour) due to safety concerns. According to NAFDAC, the product has been found to contain undeclared allergens, including milk and eggs, which were not indicated on the label. This poses serious health risks, particularly to individuals with allergies or food intolerances, as exposure could result in severe reactions.

The alert was prompted by an international safety notice from France’s consumer protection body, Rappel Conso, which initiated a recall of the vegetable-flavoured noodles after laboratory analysis revealed the presence of the undeclared allergens. The recall applies to all batches with a best-before date of 6 February 2026. Although the country of manufacture was not specified, NAFDAC has taken a precautionary approach to protect public health.

NAFDAC has instructed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify monitoring activities and promptly confiscate any of the affected noodles found in markets, storage facilities, or distribution outlets. The agency has also called on consumers, wholesalers, and retailers to remain vigilant throughout the food supply chain. Anyone in possession of the implicated Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles has been advised to dispose of them immediately and avoid consumption.

The public is encouraged to report any sightings to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the toll-free number 0800-162-3322. Additionally, NAFDAC has urged Nigerians to report any adverse health effects associated with the product using its official e-reporting platforms. The agency’s swift response highlights the importance of strict regulatory enforcement in ensuring food safety standards.

The widespread consumption of instant noodles in Nigerian homes has brought attention to the need for robust food safety measures. While the likelihood of the recalled noodles entering Nigeria is minimal due to the Federal Government’s prohibition on noodle imports, unauthorized importation through online shopping platforms or personal travel remains a concern. As a result, NAFDAC’s proactive approach is crucial in protecting public health and preventing potential harm. The agency’s efforts serve as a reminder of the significance of regulatory vigilance in maintaining the safety and integrity of the food supply chain.
