A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashir Bakari, has resigned from the party, citing a persistent lack of recognition and inclusiveness. In a letter to the APC Ward Chairman, Bakari announced that his resignation takes immediate effect. He is a native of Majidadi Ward in Jalingo Local Government Council, Taraba State, and says his decision follows years of unwavering loyalty and significant contributions that were not adequately acknowledged.
Bakari noted that he contested the Jalingo II Constituency seat in the 2023 elections and served on the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council (TPCC) during the same cycle. Despite this active involvement, he expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as unfair treatment and a lack of internal party democracy. After careful consideration and consultations with supporters and stakeholders, he decided to leave the APC and explore alternative platforms where his political aspirations and capabilities can be better utilized.
His resignation underscores ongoing challenges within the APC regarding party unity and member satisfaction. Recent internal conflicts and defections have been linked to issues such as insufficient inclusiveness and failure to recognize members’ contributions. As Nigeria’s political landscape evolves, the APC and other parties must address these concerns to maintain the trust and loyalty of their members.
The departure of prominent figures like Bakari could have significant implications for the APC’s future prospects, especially ahead of upcoming elections. The party will need to reassess its internal dynamics and work toward a more inclusive and democratic environment to retain existing members and attract new supporters. In an increasingly competitive political scene, addressing the concerns of members and stakeholders is essential for the APC to remain a viable force in Nigeria’s political arena.
