The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Barr. Solomon Dalyop Mwantiri, has urged youths in crisis-prone communities in Plateau State to defend themselves against Fulani bandits and terrorists. Mwantiri made this call during the mass burial of 12 miners who were killed by gunmen at a mining site in the Barkin Ladi local government area. He stated that since the federal and state governments, as well as security agencies, have failed to protect the people, it is imperative for the youths to take action.
Mwantiri emphasized that the only language the attackers understand is violence, and therefore, the youths should be prepared to respond in kind. He noted that the government’s silence on the matter is being perceived as an encouragement to the terrorists, and if this continues, the people will have no option but to defend themselves. The BYM President called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, and security agencies to take immediate action to address the situation.
The mass burial was attended by grieving families, community leaders, clergymen, and politicians. Mwantiri addressed the crowd, expressing his frustration with the government’s inaction and the constant loss of lives. He also appealed to the clergymen and politicians to unite and work towards finding a solution to the crisis. Mwantiri stated that the terrorists do not discriminate based on political affiliations or religious beliefs, and therefore, it is essential for the people to come together to defend themselves.
The situation in Plateau State has been volatile, with frequent attacks by Fulani bandits and terrorists. The state has experienced a significant loss of lives and property, and the people are growing increasingly frustrated with the government’s inability to provide adequate security. Mwantiri’s call to action is a reflection of the desperation and anger felt by the community. The Plateau State government and security agencies have been criticized for their handling of the crisis, and it remains to be seen what measures they will take to address the situation.
In recent years, the Nigerian government has faced criticism for its handling of insecurity in the country. The Plateau State crisis is one of several security challenges facing the government, and it requires a comprehensive and effective response to address the root causes of the conflict. The international community has offered support to Nigeria in its efforts to combat terrorism, and it is hoped that this support will contribute to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
