PDP Offers Abia Governor Alex Otti Ticket for 2027 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed willingness to offer Abia State Governor Alex Otti its governorship ticket for the 2027 election if he decides to defect from his current party. Senator Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, made this known while discussing the governor’s political future and the party’s strategy ahead of the next general elections.

Wabara described Governor Otti as a “formidable political actor” whose performance has earned respect across party lines, citing his achievements in office as a reason for his appeal to several political parties. The PDP chairman noted that effective leadership and tangible results now outweigh party affiliation, reflecting the growing interest in the governor from different political platforms.

The PDP is currently undergoing a repositioning process aimed at rebuilding trust and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections. According to Wabara, the party’s national leadership is focused on restructuring and presenting a more credible and attractive platform for aspirants. He emphasized that the South-East remains a stronghold of the PDP and that Otti’s possible defection would significantly boost the party’s influence in the region.

Wabara commended the Abia 25-Year Development Plan, describing it as a strategic blueprint capable of transforming the state if effectively implemented. He praised Governor Otti’s strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, industrial development, and security, as well as the introduction of electric buses for urban transport.

The PDP chairman urged Governor Otti to consider joining the party, citing leadership challenges within the Labour Party. He argued that the PDP offers a stronger national structure and wider reach, which would be crucial in withstanding pressure from the ruling party ahead of the 2027 polls. With the next general elections approaching, the PDP’s offer to Governor Otti may be a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position in the South-East region.
