Ogun Assembly orders TRACE to address indiscriminate parking under Kuto Bridge

Ogun State House of Assembly Directs TRACE to Address Indiscriminate Parking and Gridlock

The Ogun State House of Assembly has instructed the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, to take immediate action to address the indiscriminate parking of vehicles under the Kuto Flyover in Abeokuta. This directive aims to restore order and ensure compliance with traffic regulations around the Kuto Roundabout, enhancing public safety and traffic flow.

The Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriations, led by Musefiu Lamidi, issued this directive during the ongoing 2026 budget defense by ministries, departments, and agencies. The committee attributed the persistent gridlock at the location to factors such as driving against traffic and the indiscriminate loading and offloading of passengers by commercial vehicles.

In addition to addressing the traffic issue, the committee also tasked the Ministry of Transportation with aligning the development of the Gateway Airport with the state’s economic agenda. This alignment is crucial to ensure that the project achieves its objectives of boosting investment, connectivity, and revenue generation.

During the budget defense, the Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, revealed plans to establish a state-owned airline, in addition to the existing partnership with ValueJet Airline. He also assured that the state would commence cargo flight operations and establish an aircraft maintenance and repair facility at the Gateway Airport from the next fiscal year.

Other agencies, including TRACE, the Gateway Airport, and the Vehicle Inspection Office, presented their budget proposals to the House Committee. The committee also received presentations from the State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Rural Development, and the State House of Assembly, among others.

The directive to address the traffic issue and the plans for the Gateway Airport’s development highlight the state government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance economic growth. The successful implementation of these initiatives will be crucial in achieving the state’s economic objectives and improving the overall quality of life for its citizens. The next steps will involve the agencies working to implement the directives and plans, with the Assembly committee monitoring their progress.
