The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory for motorists using the Rironi‑Mau Summit highway, warning that heavy congestion is expected as holiday travel peaks. The authority reports a significant rise in traffic volumes, leading to long queues and delays. In a statement released on December 24, KeNHA urged drivers to consider alternative routes to ease congestion and ensure smoother journeys.

Recommended detours include:
– Thika – Magumu – Njabini – Olkalou – Dundori – Lanet – Nakuru
– Flyover – Njabini – Olkalou – Dundori – Lanet – Nakuru
– Naivasha – Njabini – Olkalou – Dundori – Lanet – Nakuru

Other alternatives are:
– Gilgil – Olkalou – Dundori – Lanet – Nakuru
– Nakuru – Kampi ya Moto – Eldama Ravine – Makutano
– Nakuru – Njoro – Mau Summit
– Ngong – Suswa – Narok – Mau Narok – Nakuru

KeNHA has advised motorists traveling these corridors to exercise caution, observe lane discipline, and follow traffic rules to maintain smooth flow and prevent accidents. Police officers and traffic marshals have been deployed along the busy routes to manage traffic and maintain order.

As the festive season approaches, KeNHA reiterated general road‑safety guidelines: plan journeys in advance, use alternative routes, adhere to speed limits, and follow traffic regulations. Public Service Vehicle operators were reminded to respect passenger‑capacity limits, use designated pick‑up and drop‑off points, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy. Drivers are urged to maintain lane discipline, avoid reckless overtaking, and be fit and sober before traveling.

KeNHA emphasized that disciplined driving, compliance with signage, and road‑safety awareness are essential to reducing accidents and ensuring smooth travel during the holidays. By providing alternative routes and promoting responsible driving practices, the authority aims to minimize congestion and prevent accidents, delivering a safer and more enjoyable travel experience for all road users. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant and follow traffic guidelines throughout the holiday season.
