Fire Safety Advice Issued To Residents For Festive Period

The Kwara state Fire Service has issued a safety advisory to residents ahead of the festive period, urging caution to prevent fire disasters. Director Prince Falade Olumuyiwa emphasized the importance of responsible use of electrical appliances, proper handling of gas cylinders, and cooking equipment. He advised against overloading power sockets and encouraged the public to switch off devices when not in use. The director also warned against the dangers of fireworks, open flames, and bush burning, recommending that they be handled with caution or avoided altogether.

In the event of a fire outbreak or emergency, Prince Falade advised residents to contact the nearest state fire station for a prompt response. The fire service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, released a statement in Ilorin on Wednesday, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to ensure a safe and joyous Christmas celebration across the state.

The statement also extended Christmas greetings to officers and personnel of the fire service, acknowledging their dedication, bravery, and commitment to duty. The fire service expressed appreciation for the sacrifices and professionalism of its staff in safeguarding lives and property throughout the year. As the state celebrates the festive season, the fire service prayed for peace, renewed strength, good health, and joy for its personnel and their families.

The safety advisory comes as the state prepares for an increase in social gatherings and festivities, which can heighten the risk of fire accidents. By issuing these guidelines, the Kwara state Fire Service aims to raise awareness and promote preventive measures to minimize the risk of fire disasters. Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions and follow the advised safety measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive period. The fire service remains committed to providing emergency response services and promoting fire safety awareness throughout the year.
