Johnny Gaudreau sister pays tribute on Christmas Eve

The Gaudreau family is remembering their loved ones, Johnny and Matthew, during the holiday season. On Christmas Eve, Katie Gaudreau, the sister of the late NHL player Johnny Gaudreau, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. The emotional post reflected on past Christmas Eves and the irreplaceable loss her family has experienced.

Katie’s message recounted fond memories of her childhood, including Christmas Eves spent at mass, having pizza for dinner, and making cookies for Santa. She also shared throwback photos of the four Gaudreau siblings together during happier holidays. The photos, originally posted by her sister Kristen, showed the siblings in front of their family Christmas tree and celebrating the season as teenagers.

The tribute comes after the tragic loss of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who died in August 2024. The brothers were struck by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. The driver, Sean M. Higgins, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, evidence tampering, and leaving the scene of an accident. He has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 70 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Earlier this month, Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, paid tribute to Matthew on what would have been his 31st birthday. She shared personal family photos and stories, including a wedding portrait of Meredith and Johnny with Matthew standing beside the couple. Matthew was a former Boston College forward and played professionally in the AHL and ECHL before retiring from hockey.

The Gaudreau family’s tributes serve as a reminder of the importance of cherishing memories and honoring loved ones during the holiday season. As the family continues to navigate their loss, they are finding ways to keep the memories of Johnny and Matthew alive. The case against Sean M. Higgins is ongoing, and the family awaits justice for their loved ones.
