Ogun Governor Vows Peaceful Transition in 2027

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has assured residents of a seamless and peaceful transition of power at the end of his second term in 2027. Speaking during a Christmas church service at St. James’ Anglican Church in Iperu-Remo, Abiodun pledged to set a historic benchmark in the state’s governance by being the first administration to hand over power without acrimony.

Historically, succession in Ogun State has been marked by tensions, with past transitions characterized by infighting and opposition. However, Abiodun expressed confidence that his administration would break this trend, citing his government’s focus on solid governance, economic expansion, and people-focused development.

Since assuming office, Abiodun claimed that the state’s economy has grown significantly, with the annual budget expanding from 355 billion to over 2.7 trillion. He attributed this growth to increased economic activity and investor confidence, noting that new factories and industries are springing up across the state. The governor also highlighted his administration’s achievements, including the reconstruction of over 2,000 schools, job creation, and empowerment of farmers.

Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to using his office to glorify God and serve the people through impactful projects, such as the Gateway International Airport and other key infrastructure across the three senatorial districts. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the country is gradually stabilizing with improved availability of petroleum products and a more stable foreign exchange regime.

The governor reminded residents that the true significance of Christmas lies in love, peace, and compassion for the vulnerable, emphasizing the need to extend a hand of fellowship to the less privileged. The church service sermon, delivered by Venerable Tolulope Akinwande, echoed this message, describing Christmas as the season God gave Himself to humanity through the birth of Jesus Christ.

As Abiodun’s administration approaches the end of its second term, the governor’s pledge for a peaceful transition is seen as a significant development in Ogun State’s political landscape. With the state’s history of tumultuous succession, Abiodun’s commitment to a seamless handover of power is a welcome change, and one that could set a positive precedent for future administrations.
