Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, has ordered troops in the Sokoto region to intensify their efforts to eliminate bandits and terrorists. He delivered this directive during an operational visit to the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela, Sokoto State, where he praised the soldiers for their bravery and professionalism in confronting criminal elements.
In a statement released by the Nigerian Army and signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS highlighted the troops’ successes, noting that these achievements have contributed to improved security in the area. He stressed the need to sustain momentum in order to completely defeat the terrorists, whose attacks on Nigerians will no longer be tolerated.
The COAS also announced plans to enhance the welfare of the soldiers, including the construction of additional housing, medical facilities, and other essential infrastructure at Illela Barracks. These improvements aim to boost morale and support the troops and their families.
The visit and directive are part of ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the region, where the military has been engaged in operations against bandits and terrorists. The Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and the 8 Division Sokoto have been at the forefront of these operations, working to restore peace and stability.
