Kebbi Security Boosted With 819 Trained Forest Guards

Kebbi State has enhanced its security apparatus with the graduation of 819 National Forest Guards, who have undergone intensive training to protect forest reserves and combat criminal activities. The guards completed a comprehensive nine-week training program in Kalgo Local Government Area, focusing on key areas such as early warning systems, patrol operations, ambush tactics, and the handling of firearms.

The training program was jointly supervised by the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the military, demonstrating a coordinated security effort. Deputy Governor Umar Tafida emphasized the importance of community collaboration with the newly trained personnel, stressing that local support is crucial in combating banditry and forest-related crimes.

The National Forest Guard initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen security in vulnerable areas, with Kebbi being one of seven states chosen for the pilot phase. The guards will be deployed to forest corridors and ungoverned areas, including Arewa, Augie, Dandi, and Danko-Wasagu Local Government Areas. According to Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia, representing the National Security Adviser, the deployment of the guards will commence immediately.

The introduction of the National Forest Guards is expected to complement existing security formations and prevent criminals from using forest reserves as hideouts or operational bases. As the deployment begins, residents are hopeful that the strengthened security presence will weaken bandit networks and restore safety to rural communities that have long been threatened by criminal activities.

The National Forest Guard initiative aims to address the growing concern of forest-related crimes, which have been a persistent challenge in many parts of the country. By providing training and support to local communities, the initiative seeks to empower them to take an active role in maintaining security and protecting their surroundings. With the graduation of the 819 National Forest Guards, Kebbi State has taken a significant step towards enhancing its security framework and promoting safety in rural areas.
