PDP National convention: Nobody will use me, my loyalists - Wike blows hot

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), warned his political adversaries on Sunday about the potential consequences of continuing to target him. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives from Ikwerre land, he stressed that those who have pursued him in the past have ultimately failed to achieve their goals, adding that “nobody should take us for granted.” Wike reflected on his experiences, noting that opponents have “missed their roads,” and, while he did not name anyone, he hinted that some of the challengers hail from his own region.

The minister also announced his intention to become actively involved in politics starting in January, urging his supporters not to be intimidated by opponents. Drawing on his experience in both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wike highlighted his ability to deliver electoral victories across party lines. He challenged his rivals to demonstrate comparable strength, arguing that true political power is shown by securing significant wins—such as delivering a presidential candidate from one party while supporting candidates from another.

Wike’s statement comes as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, with various factions and interest groups positioning themselves for upcoming elections. His warning underscores the intense competition and strategic maneuvering that characterize the country’s political environment. As the political season heats up, Wike’s message is likely to resonate with his supporters, while opponents will be watching his movements closely. With his planned entry into active politics in January, the stage is set for a potentially dramatic and fascinating period in Nigerian politics.
