PDP Ready for FCT Area Council Elections 2026

The Peoples Democratic Party in the Federal Capital Territory has affirmed its readiness for the upcoming area council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. According to a statement issued by the FCT Publicity Secretary, Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, on Sunday, the party is confident in its preparation and the qualifications of its candidates.

The party’s declaration comes amidst ongoing internal disputes, including a faction linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other stakeholders. Despite these challenges, the party maintains that its candidates have been duly approved and recognized by both the national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The statement emphasized that the party’s candidates, who are described as individuals of proven integrity and commitment, have been officially endorsed by the Damagum-led National Working Committee. This endorsement is seen as a significant step in establishing the legitimacy of the party’s candidates, thereby dismissing reports that have questioned their eligibility.

The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed its unity and confidence in securing victory in the upcoming polls. The party views reports suggesting otherwise as misinformation, and it is moving forward with its campaign, focused on the area council elections.

In the context of Nigeria’s electoral landscape, area council elections are crucial for determining local leadership and representation. The Federal Capital Territory, being the nation’s capital, holds particular significance in these elections. As the electoral process unfolds, the readiness and unity of political parties, such as the Peoples Democratic Party, will be closely observed.

With the elections approaching, the party’s assertion of readiness and its emphasis on the legitimacy of its candidates aim to reassure supporters and the electoral commission of its commitment to a fair and successful electoral process. The outcome of these elections will not only reflect the party’s strength in the FCT but also contribute to the broader political dynamics of Nigeria.
