Ex-Senator Nnaji Dumps PDP for ADC

Senator Gilbert Nnaji quits PDP after 27 years, joins ADC

Former Nigerian Senator Gilbert Emeka Nnaji has left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Nnaji, who represented Enugu East senatorial zone, announced his decision in a letter to the PDP chairman of Umuenwene Ward, Iji Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, dated December 26, 2026.

In the letter, Nnaji stated that he could no longer remain in the PDP, which he described as “irredeemable” and “irreparable” after 27 years of membership. He expressed his disappointment, citing the party’s founding principles of unity, patriotism, justice, and transparency, which he believed had been compromised. Nnaji noted that he had made significant contributions to the party in various capacities but felt compelled to seek a new platform to contribute to national development.

After consulting with his family, associates, and other prominent citizens, Nnaji decided to join the ADC, which he described as a “veritable and promising ground” with like-minded individuals who share his vision for a better Nigeria. He expressed gratitude to the PDP and wished the party well.

Nnaji’s defection is significant, as he is one of the top politicians from the South East region to join the ADC. He is expected to formally declare his membership at a ceremony in Enugu on Wednesday. This development may have implications for the political landscape in Nigeria, particularly in the South East region.

The ADC has been gaining momentum in recent times, attracting politicians who are dissatisfied with the current state of the PDP and other major parties. Nnaji’s decision to join the ADC may be seen as a boost to the party’s fortunes, particularly in the South East region. As Nigeria prepares for future elections, the ADC’s growing influence and the defection of prominent politicians like Nnaji may shape the country’s political trajectory.
