Wike Claims Political Strength to Deliver Election Victories

Babachir Lawal angry Tinubu didn’t choose him as VP - Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has emphasized the strength and structure of his political base, asserting its capability to deliver any candidate of choice in elections. Wike made this statement during meetings with supporters and allies in Rivers State, specifically in Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas.

He highlighted his role and that of his supporters in securing President Bola Tinubu’s victory in Rivers State during the 2023 general elections. Beyond the presidential win, Wike noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also secured all elective positions in both national and state assemblies, as well as the governorship election in the state. These electoral successes, according to Wike, demonstrate his and his supporters’ capacity to mobilize and deliver victories at the polls.

In the context of Rivers State politics, Wike advised his supporters in Omuma LGA to follow the guidance of Kelechi Nwogu, indicating alignment with Nwogu’s political stance. Nwogu, the member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, declared that if Governor Siminalayi Fubara seeks re-election, Omuma will not support him. Nwogu expressed concerns about ingratitude and the dynamics of power, emphasizing the importance of loyalty and respect for political leadership.

Nwogu also questioned the electoral value of recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the declaration of support for President Tinubu, distinguishing between defection itself and the political capacity of those defecting. He assured Wike and President Tinubu of Omuma’s firm support.

During his visit to Etche Local Government Area, Wike addressed his supporters, noting that political activities will officially commence in January. This statement sets the stage for upcoming political maneuvers in the region.

The developments in Rivers State underscore the complexities of Nigerian politics, where alliances, defections, and support bases play critical roles in election outcomes. As political figures position themselves for the 2027 general elections, the statements by Wike and Nwogu highlight the intricate dynamics at play, with loyalty, political structure, and electoral value emerging as key themes. The situation in Rivers State will likely continue to unfold with significant implications for the state’s and the nation’s political landscape.
