Khabib Nurmagomedov, the renowned mixed martial artist, has shared insights into his coaching methods and the strict discipline he maintains in his gym. The former UFC lightweight champion, who retired with an unblemished 29-0 record, has transitioned into a coaching role, training high-profile fighters such as Islam Makhachev, Umar Nurmagomedov, and Usman Nurmagomedov.

In a recent interview at the World Sports Summit, Nurmagomedov discussed his approach to training, emphasizing the importance of absolute obedience from his students. He stated that there is no “freedom of speech” in his gym, and his fighters are expected to follow his instructions without question. Nurmagomedov believes this approach has contributed to the success of his team, with champions in almost every organization and some of the best fighters in the sport.

Nurmagomedov’s coaching philosophy is centered around discipline and hard work. He pushes his fighters to their limits, and the results speak for themselves. His team’s impressive track record is a testament to the effectiveness of his methods. When asked about his approach, Nurmagomedov said, “When we come to the gym, when we begin our training, all of them know about this. There is no freedom [of] speech. Everybody does what I say… There is no 50/50, and I try to push them very well.”

The former champion also shared his thoughts on building relationships with former opponents. Nurmagomedov expressed his difficulty in understanding how fighters can become friends with individuals who have tried to defeat them in the cage. He explained that the nature of their sport is different from others, such as football, where players may develop friendships with opponents. Nurmagomedov stated, “No, we have to be nice. But, it’s never gonna be friends. This guy try to smash your face, how you gonna be friends with him? It’s different.”

Nurmagomedov’s comments offer a glimpse into the mindset of one of the most successful fighters in the sport. His coaching methods and approach to relationships with opponents have sparked interest and debate among fans and pundits alike.
