Kebbi Schools Reopen January 5 After Closure

Kebbi govt orders schools to resume second term Monday

The Kebbi State Government has announced the reopening of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, effective Monday, January 5, 2026. This directive was issued in a joint statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director (Academics) of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa.

The decision to reopen schools follows an earlier closure due to the abduction of 25 students of Government Day Secondary School, Maga, in Zuru Local Government Area by suspected bandits. The state government has now deemed it necessary to resume academic activities, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a stable and uninterrupted academic calendar.

According to the statement, all stakeholders, including school administrators, education secretaries, principals, head teachers, teachers, parents, and students, are expected to comply with the directive. The government has stressed the importance of adequate preparations to ensure a smooth start to the second term, particularly in urban and rural areas. School heads have been instructed to ensure staff and facility readiness, while parents and guardians are advised to ensure their children and wards resume promptly to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

The first week of the second term will be dedicated to conducting outstanding first-term examinations, with normal classroom teaching scheduled to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026. The state government has warned that strict adherence to the approved resumption timetable and examination schedule will be enforced, with monitoring teams deployed to ensure compliance.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the directive, describing it as timely and essential for sustaining academic discipline and improving learning outcomes in the state. The reopening of schools is seen as a crucial step towards restoring normalcy and stability in the education sector, following the earlier disruption. As schools prepare to resume, the state government’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment will be closely monitored.
