Aisha Yesufu Warns Peter Obi Against Deputy Role

A prominent socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has cautioned Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against accepting a vice-presidential role in the 2027 election. In a video circulating on social media, Yesufu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, stated that she would oppose any presidential ticket featuring Obi as a running mate.

Yesufu emphasized that Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, is the most suitable candidate for the presidency and should be given the top ticket. She expressed her commitment to working against any ticket that does not recognize Obi’s potential as a presidential candidate. “I’m giving you my word, if Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket,” she said.

This development comes as Obi, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress, is considering running for the party’s presidential ticket. The ADC has been adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration. However, there are indications that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may emerge as the party’s flagbearer, potentially selecting Obi as his running mate.

Yesufu’s statement highlights the ongoing debate about the role of prominent political figures in Nigeria’s electoral landscape. As the country prepares for the 2027 elections, alliances and party nominations are likely to play a significant role in shaping the outcome. The African Democratic Congress, with its coalition of opposition leaders, is poised to be a key player in the upcoming elections.

The opposition coalition’s efforts to unseat President Tinubu’s administration have been gaining momentum, with various parties and stakeholders maneuvering for position. As the electoral process unfolds, the decisions made by prominent figures like Obi and Yesufu will be closely watched, with potential implications for the country’s political trajectory. With the 2027 elections approaching, Nigeria’s political landscape is set to undergo significant shifts, and the actions of key players will be crucial in determining the outcome.
