APC’s One-Party Bid to Fail, Says Prof Udenta

A former national official of a defunct Nigerian political party has expressed skepticism about the ruling party’s prospects of achieving a one-party state. Prof Udenta Udenta, former National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, made this statement in a recent television interview. He posits that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will emerge weaker from its upcoming primaries, with other parties potentially capitalizing on this situation.

Udenta attributes the potential decline of the APC to internal issues, citing the example of Rivers State. He suggests that the party’s diversity and the heterogeneous nature of Nigeria will hinder any attempt to establish a one-party system. The professor also notes that politicians often change allegiances, making it difficult to predict the outcome of political events.

In recent years, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has gained prominence, particularly in the Southeast region, thanks in part to the supporters of Peter Obi, a prominent political figure. This development has reinforced the ADC as a significant political platform. Udenta’s comments come at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is undergoing significant changes, with various parties and interest groups jockeying for position ahead of future elections.

The APC, as the ruling party, has faced numerous challenges, including internal power struggles and criticism from opposition parties. The party’s ability to maintain its dominance will depend on its ability to address these challenges and present a united front. As Nigeria continues to evolve politically, the interactions between different parties and interest groups will be crucial in shaping the country’s future.

Udenta’s assessment highlights the complexities of Nigeria’s political environment, where multiple parties and factions are vying for influence. The outcome of the APC’s primaries and the subsequent political maneuvers will be closely watched, as they may have significant implications for the country’s political trajectory. As the political scene continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the APC will be able to achieve its goals or if other parties will gain ground.
