Niger Terrorist Attack Kills 42 Villagers President Orders Hunt

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directed the country’s security agencies to track down and apprehend those responsible for the recent terrorist attack in Niger State, which killed at least 42 people and abducted several others. The attack occurred in the Borgu and Agwara local government areas, where terrorists raided communities, burnt down houses and markets, and made away with valuable items.

Tinubu condemned the attack, describing it as a cruel and nefarious act that has tested the resolve of Nigeria and its people. He instructed the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, and Director-General of the Department of State Services to urgently rescue all abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Niger State Government has also reacted to the attack, with Governor Umaru Bago describing it as disturbing and worrying. He extended his sympathy to the people of the affected communities and prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed. The Northern States Governors’ Forum has also condemned the attack, describing it as a cruel assault on innocent citizens and a grave threat to peace and livelihoods.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Mohammed Musa, has urged President Tinubu to declare an all-out war against the terrorists, calling for the full invasion, dismantling, and destruction of terrorist networks, camps, and supply chains. Musa described the attacks as barbaric and inhumane, and extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of Niger State.

In a related development, troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have neutralized three suspected bandits and arrested their logistics suppliers in Kogi State. The army has also foiled the movement of bandits in the state, recovering arms and ammunition. Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, has called on the US government to launch airstrikes in Benue State to eliminate terrorists, citing the growing presence of terrorists in the state.

The recent attack in Niger State has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for decisive action to be taken against the terrorists. The Nigerian government has assured that it will do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of its citizens. The incident has highlighted the need for increased security measures in the country, particularly in the northern regions where terrorist activities have been on the rise.
