Bauchi, Gombe get new AIG amid growing insecurity

The Zone 12 Police Headquarters in Bauchi announced that Assistant Inspector‑General of Police Vungmoh S.M. Kwaimo has assumed duty as the 31st Assistant Inspector‑General for the zone, which covers Bauchi and Gombe states. He took charge of the Zonal Headquarters on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, succeeding AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who retired due to age.

In a statement issued by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Jalige Mohammad, AIG Kwaimo thanked Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for the opportunity to serve. He pledged to uphold professionalism, dedication and results‑oriented policing to ensure the security and safety of Bauchi and Gombe states.

AIG Vungmoh Kwaimo was born on 25 December 1966 in Garkawa District, Mikang Local Government Area, Plateau State. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1988. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent on 18 May 1992 and trained at the Police Academy Annex in Kaduna. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of operational, investigative and administrative positions across the country, giving him extensive experience that is expected to strengthen the zone’s policing strategies.

As the new Assistant Inspector‑General, AIG Kwaimo is committed to building on his predecessor’s achievements and advancing the zone’s security objectives. His appointment marks a new chapter for Zone 12 Police Headquarters, and his wealth of experience and professional commitment position him well to address the security challenges facing Bauchi and Gombe states. The Nigeria Police Force continues to reshape its leadership to enhance operational effectiveness and public service. In his new role, AIG Kwaimo is expected to prioritize community‑oriented policing and collaborative efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
