The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State held a special stakeholders meeting at its state secretariat in Owerri, drawing prominent party leaders, industry captains, and dignitaries. This gathering highlighted the party’s growing influence in the state. Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, presented new members who defected from the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Obidient Movement, marking a significant political realignment.
Ihedioha emphasized the importance of collective and selfless work to strengthen the party’s unity, growth, and progress. He stressed that cohesion, discipline, and a shared purpose are essential for building a formidable political platform capable of delivering good governance. Other speakers, including former Governor Achike Udenwa, ADC South-East Chairman Born Unachukwu, and Imo State ADC Chairman James Okoroma, underscored the need for hard work, integrity, and commitment to advancing the party’s agenda.
The new members, who were formally presented by Ihedioha, cited the party’s quality of leadership and internal democracy as the reason for their defection. They criticized the Labour Party and PDP for allegedly aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and failing to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians. In a show of solidarity, ADC leaders and Local Government Area (LGA) chapters voluntarily contributed over N200 million to support party operations and activities across the state.
The meeting concluded with stakeholders expressing renewed hope, unity, and determination to advance the ADC’s vision and achieve its strategic goals in Imo State and beyond. The African Democratic Congress has been gaining momentum in the state, and this development is expected to further strengthen its position. With its focus on national rebirth and people-centered governance, the party is poised to play a significant role in the state’s political landscape. As the party moves forward, it is likely to face challenges and opportunities that will test its resolve and commitment to its core values.
