Impeachment Bid Against Governor Fubara Unlikely to Succeed

A former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Austin Tam-George, has stated that attempts to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara are unlikely to succeed due to the governor’s performance record and the lack of concrete allegations against him. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Tam-George argued that the impeachment process initiated against Fubara is an attempt to prevent him from seeking a second term.

According to Tam-George, Governor Fubara has prioritized the needs of the people, implementing visible interventions in rural development, housing, education, and healthcare. This, he believes, has made it challenging for opponents to justify the impeachment process. Tam-George also called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene, stating that the party should not allow the humiliation of a sitting governor with a strong performance record.

The impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara were initiated with articles of impeachment that, according to Tam-George, lack specificity regarding any alleged infractions by the governor or his deputy. He suggests that the true motive behind the impeachment process is to scuttle Fubara’s chances of a second term, as indicated by a recent statement from Nyesom Wike, who implied that Fubara’s re-election would be detrimental to his own political career.

Tam-George advises Governor Fubara to maintain his focus on the people’s needs, run a transparent administration, and defend his record. He believes that the truth will come out, and the governor will be able to successfully defend his administration. The APC’s intervention is also deemed necessary to prevent the humiliation of a sitting governor with a strong performance record. The outcome of the impeachment process remains uncertain, but Tam-George’s comments highlight the complexities of the situation and the potential implications for Governor Fubara’s political future.
