Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has stated that Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is the sole driving force behind the African Democratic Congress, ADC. Fayose made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ program, which was monitored by Media Talk Africa.
According to Fayose, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has effectively ceased to exist, describing it as “dead.” He also cautioned against involving Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in the PDP’s troubles. Fayose emphasized that Obi’s presence is crucial to the ADC, stating that without him, the party would lack vitality. He further noted that Obi’s influence would be significant regardless of the party he chooses to affiliate with.
Fayose openly acknowledged his support for Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, reiterating that he has not wavered in his stance. He clarified that, despite his support for Tinubu, he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and has no intention of joining the party.
The former governor’s comments come at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is experiencing significant shifts. The PDP, once a dominant force, has faced challenges in recent years, leading to speculation about its future. Meanwhile, the ADC and other parties have sought to capitalize on the situation, with Obi’s involvement being seen as a key factor in their potential success.
Fayose’s statements have sparked interest in the country’s political circles, with many analysts seeking to understand the implications of his comments on the future of the PDP and the ADC. As Nigeria’s political environment continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the various parties will navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
