President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The event, a major global forum focused on sustainable development and climate action, officially opens on Monday.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, President Tinubu’s aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. He was received by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, among others.
Prior to his arrival in Abu Dhabi, President Tinubu spent part of his end-of-year break in Europe, where he held high-level discussions with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Emmanuel Macron of France. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go,” serves as a global platform for world leaders, policymakers, investors, and experts to drive dialogue and collective action on sustainable development, climate change mitigation, energy transition, and inclusive economic growth. President Tinubu is expected to participate in key sessions and hold bilateral meetings, where Nigeria’s priorities in energy transition, climate resilience, infrastructure development, and green investment are likely to be prominent.
The President’s visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global sustainability efforts and reinforces the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, particularly in areas such as energy, trade, investment, and climate-related initiatives. The visit also positions Nigeria as an active contributor to international conversations on building resilient economies and advancing sustainable development in the Global South.
As the event gets underway, President Tinubu’s participation is expected to highlight Nigeria’s priorities and commitments to sustainable development and climate action. The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week provides a platform for global leaders to drive collective action and dialogue on critical issues, and President Tinubu’s attendance reinforces Nigeria’s role in international efforts to address these challenges.
