Delta Governor Urges Colleagues To Use Increased FAAC Allocations

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on his fellow governors to utilize the increased allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for projects that directly benefit the public. The governor made this statement during the groundbreaking ceremony for the 39.3 billion Otovwodo flyover project in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Governor Oborevwori disputed claims of severe financial constraints in states, emphasizing that subnational governments now have access to more resources. “There is no point hiding the truth from Nigerians. More money is coming to the states,” he stated. He encouraged his colleagues to make prudent use of the increased funds in the interest of citizens.

The Otovwodo flyover project is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance vehicular movement, and boost trade and commercial activities upon completion. The project, being executed by Julius Berger at a cost of 39.34 billion, is scheduled to be completed within 12 months. The governor described the ceremony as a significant moment for his administration, marking another milestone in the drive to strengthen infrastructure development across Delta State.

The Otovwodo junction is a critical link connecting Warri, Asaba, and Patani along the East–West Highway, making it one of the busiest routes in the area. Governor Oborevwori appealed to motorists and residents to be patient during the construction period and to cooperate with traffic officials to avoid gridlock and ensure safety.

The governor’s administration has emphasized the importance of infrastructure development, aiming to redefine the social contract with the people through compassion, conviction, and a culture of accountability. With the increased allocations from FAAC, Governor Oborevwori has urged his fellow governors to prioritize projects that directly benefit the masses, promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. As the construction of the Otovwodo flyover project commences, the governor’s administration is expected to continue its focus on infrastructure development, aiming to improve the lives of citizens in Delta State.
