ADC Dismisses Chime’s Endorsement of Tinubu for Re-election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid by former Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime. According to Comrade Adolphus Ude, National Coordinator of ADC Like-Minds, Chime’s endorsement is “inconsequential and self-seeking” due to his lack of a political machine and grassroots presence in the South-East region.

Ude stated that Chime, who was a former governor of Enugu State from 2007 to 2015, has no influence in his ward in Udi town, let alone the entire South-East Nigeria. He argued that the ADC has gained popularity among the masses in the region, who are seeking an alternative to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). The ADC, Ude claimed, is a people-oriented movement that aims to address the maladministration of the APC government in the South-East and Nigeria as a whole.

Ude also criticized Chime’s track record, noting that he did not contribute financially to the APC during his time as a member, despite his wealth. He described Chime’s endorsement of Tinubu as “grandstanding” and an attempt to gain recognition from the presidency and APC national leadership. Ude pointed out that Chime had previously abandoned his senatorial ambition, allowing Ekweremadu to return to the Senate for a fourth term.

The ADC leader maintained that Chime’s endorsement of Tinubu would have no significant impact on the party’s chances in the upcoming election. He emphasized that the ADC is the alternative party in the South-East region, with a strong grassroots presence. Ude urged the public to disregard endorsements from former politicians, stating that the suffering masses in the South-East have not endorsed any candidate.

Chime had recently expressed his support for Tinubu’s re-election, citing the president’s performance. However, Ude’s statement suggests that the ADC is confident in its ability to challenge the APC in the South-East region. The upcoming election is expected to be closely contested, with various parties vying for support from the region’s voters. As the campaign season heats up, the ADC and other opposition parties will likely continue to criticize the APC’s record and promote their own agendas.
