The Borno State government has commended the Borno State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (BOSCHMA) for its efforts to transform healthcare delivery through the deployment of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). According to Prof. Muhammed Gana, the Commissioner for Health, the state government has invested significant resources to improve the healthcare system, with a focus on delivering better care to residents.
During an inspection tour of five digital-enabled BOSCHMA facilities in Maiduguri, Gana expressed satisfaction with the progress made in deploying EMRs, which are designed to improve service delivery in public hospitals. The EMRs will enhance diagnosis in laboratories, support referrals, and strengthen the overall system capacity for surveillance. The state government plans to expand the EMR system to other primary healthcare centers.
The commissioner also acknowledged the efforts of Governor Babagana Zulum in introducing the formal sector into the contributory healthcare scheme. Gana noted that the integration of the formal sector will enable the state government to save lives and deliver qualitative medical services to the people.
The Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, Mr. Saleh Zaka, expressed gratitude for the achievements made so far, highlighting the agency’s support for healthcare providers in making their facilities more conducive for seamless service delivery. The deployment of the EMR platform is expected to improve coordination, efficiency, and data collection, allowing for remote monitoring of facility developments.
Zaka noted that over 60% of enrollees have accessed the services, and the agency has simplified the enrollment process by introducing online registration. The EMR system will also facilitate researchers’ access to patient information while ensuring confidentiality and accountability.
The Borno State government’s efforts to transform its healthcare system are part of a broader strategy to improve the overall well-being of its residents. With the deployment of EMRs and the integration of the formal sector into the contributory healthcare scheme, the state is taking significant steps towards enhancing its healthcare delivery capabilities. As the state continues to invest in its healthcare system, it is likely that the quality of care available to residents will improve, leading to better health outcomes and an overall improvement in the quality of life.
