The Conference of Civil Society for Transparency and Accountability (COCTA) has expressed concern over the perceived inaction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of maladministration against the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, and his Chief of Staff, Olanrewaju Obasa.
In a communiqué issued on January 19, 2026, COCTA noted that its concerns stem from an earlier peaceful protest at the EFCC office and the submission of a formal petition detailing the allegations, which have not received a visible or timely response from the anti-graft agency. The coalition described the apparent inaction as troubling, given the gravity of the allegations and the constitutional responsibility of anti-graft institutions to protect public trust and ensure the proper use of public resources.
COCTA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Olumuyiwa Onlede, and General Secretary, Haruna AbdulSalam, signed the communiqué, which was issued at the end of the group’s general meeting in Abuja. The coalition has resolved to escalate its advocacy actions, citing its mandate to speak for citizens without a voice. As part of its next phase of engagement, COCTA plans to stage a peaceful protest at the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where it will submit a fresh and formal petition.
The coalition is demanding a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation into the activities of the BPP Director-General and his Chief of Staff. COCTA clarified that an earlier planned protest at the President’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos, was cancelled out of respect for the President’s private time and right to rest. However, the coalition stressed that this decision should not be interpreted as a retreat from its demands or a weakening of its resolve.
COCTA reaffirmed its commitment to the struggle for transparency, accountability, and good governance, stating that its advocacy will continue through lawful, peaceful, and sustained civic actions. The coalition’s next phase of engagement is set to commence next week at the ICPC headquarters, where it will push for a thorough investigation into the allegations against the BPP leadership. The outcome of this effort will be closely watched, as it has significant implications for the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance in the country.
