APC Enugu E-registration Gains Momentum Amidst Community Rivalry

A competitive spirit has emerged among communities in Enugu State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration programme gains momentum. The exercise, which aims to increase the party’s grassroots presence, has led to a rivalry among wards to achieve the highest registration figures.

The programme was officially launched in several wards, including Ugbawka Wards 1 and 2 in Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA), Amaechi Ward 1 in Enugu South LGA, and Awgu Ward 2 in Awgu LGA. The events were marked by large turnouts, with leaders, stakeholders, and residents demonstrating unity and confidence in the party.

According to Hon. Sydney Edeh, Executive Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, the growing enthusiasm for the APC can be attributed to the tangible benefits of governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah. Edeh cited improvements in federal roads, stabilisation of the exchange rate, and a reduction in clashes between herdsmen and farmers as examples of the positive impact of the APC-led government.

The registration drive has been seamless in some areas, with leaders like High Chief Francis Osita Nwobi, Managing Director of Fontana Group of Companies, attributing the success to the trust the people have in their leaders. In Amaechi Ward 1, former Commissioner Chief John Egbo pledged that the ward would not only deliver the APC in the 2027 elections but also emerge as the top-performing ward in the current registration drive.

The State Coordinator of the APC e-registration programme, Chief Flavour Eze, reminded residents that the exercise is a mandate of the President and that Governor Mbah has promised rewards for wards with the highest registration figures. As the exercise continues, the emerging rivalry is driving the expansion of the APC’s grassroots presence across Enugu State.

In response to reports that local government chairmen were mandating workers to register for the party, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC in Enugu State, Barr Ben Nwoye, stated that nobody is being forced to join the party. Nwoye attributed the claims to frustrated members of the opposition.

The APC e-registration programme is part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Enugu State and the Southeast region. With the exercise ongoing, it remains to be seen which wards will emerge as the top performers and how the party will reward their efforts. The programme’s outcome is expected to have significant implications for the party’s future in the region.
