PDP Aide Resigns Amid Leadership Crisis

A key member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sunny Ndukwu, has resigned from the party citing a lack of cohesion and direction. Ndukwu, who served as media aide to the sacked National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, announced his decision in a letter dated January 4, 2026. The letter, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Nguru Umuowa Ward 6, Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State, stated that Ndukwu’s resignation was due to irreconcilable differences within the party.

Ndukwu expressed his appreciation for the opportunities he had to serve in various capacities within the party, but noted that he could no longer continue due to the party’s current trajectory. He stated that the party’s objectives had diverged from its foundational principles, prompting him to seek a new political platform that aligns with his personal beliefs.

Prior to his resignation, Ndukwu held several key positions within the party, including Special Adviser on Communications to Senator Anyanwu and Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the Imo State PDP 2023 Governorship Campaign Council. He also served as Director of Media and Publicity for Senator Anyanwu’s Divine Mandate Movement and as Secretary of the Ngor Okpala LGA PDP Congress Committee.

The resignation of Ndukwu is the latest development in the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP. The party has been plagued by internal conflicts and power struggles, leading to the sacking of Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary. Ndukwu’s decision to leave the party is likely to be seen as a significant blow to the PDP, given his experience and influence within the party.

The PDP is one of the major political parties in Nigeria, and its internal conflicts have been closely watched by political observers. The party’s ability to resolve its internal issues and present a united front will be crucial in upcoming elections. As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, the resignation of key members like Ndukwu may have significant implications for the party’s future prospects.
