A 24-year-old woman from Delta State, Nigeria, has been arrested for orchestrating a failed armed robbery against her boyfriend. The suspect, Jessica Anthony, allegedly hired armed robbers to steal from her partner in order to raise approximately N7 million to cover her sister’s hospital bills.
According to the Delta State Police Command, the plan was foiled when one of the individuals she approached to carry out the robbery was acquainted with the intended victim and reported the plot to the authorities. The command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, shared a video interview with the suspect on social media, revealing the details of the case.
In the video, Anthony explained that her motivation for the crime was to secure funds for her sister’s medical treatment, which carried a hefty price tag of N7 million. She had instructed the would-be robbers to steal her boyfriend’s gold valuables. The police were able to apprehend Anthony before the robbery could take place, bringing an end to her ill-fated plan.
The incident highlights the desperate measures some individuals may resort to in times of financial hardship. The cost of medical care can be prohibitively expensive in Nigeria, leading some to seek unconventional and often illicit means of raising funds. The Delta State Police Command has demonstrated its commitment to combating crime and protecting citizens from such threats.
The case is a reminder of the importance of seeking help through legitimate channels, such as social services or non-profit organizations, when faced with financial difficulties. It also underscores the need for increased support for individuals struggling to afford medical care, to prevent such desperate measures from being considered. The police are likely to continue investigating the incident and may press charges against Anthony in the coming days.
