Lagos Police Respond to School Threat

The Lagos State Police Command has swiftly responded to a security threat against private schools in Ikeja, confirming that no danger was found and the facilities remain safe. On Tuesday, January 21, 2026, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the affected schools received threatening WhatsApp messages from an unidentified number, prompting them to report the incident to the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to the police statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately mobilized security resources and led a team of operatives to the schools. The team included officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad, and other tactical formations. A thorough search was conducted across the entire school environment, including classrooms, offices, halls, playgrounds, and surrounding areas, to eliminate the possibility of improvised explosive devices or other hazardous materials.

The search yielded no explosive or suspicious items, and the schools were subsequently declared safe for academic and administrative activities to continue. The police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for issuing the threat, with the aim of prosecuting them in line with the law. To strengthen security, combined teams of police personnel have been permanently deployed to the affected schools to provide round-the-clock protection for students, staff, and school facilities.

The Lagos State Police Command has reassured parents, guardians, school authorities, and residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state. The command has urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency lines. The swift response and increased security measures demonstrate the command’s proactive approach to addressing security concerns and ensuring the safety of citizens.

The incident highlights the importance of timely reporting of security threats and the need for collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies, schools, and the community to prevent and respond to potential security risks. As the investigation continues, the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all residents, including students and school staff. With the increased security presence and emergency lines in place, the community can feel reassured that their safety is a top priority.
