Stablecoin payments launched by Flutterwave for African merchants

Flutterwave, a leading African payments technology company, has announced the introduction of stablecoin balances for its merchants and users across all its platforms. This development is made possible through a collaboration with Nuvion and Turnkey, providing a secure and flexible stablecoin balance infrastructure.

The move is a significant step towards Flutterwave’s vision of making stablecoins a key component of Africa’s financial ecosystem, enabling the next wave of financial transformation and global connectivity. According to Nkem Abuah, Lead, GEPP ROW, Remittances & Stablecoin Partnerships at Flutterwave, “To accelerate business growth in Africa, it is essential to make it safe, easy, and affordable for businesses to accept all forms of regulated payment methods, including stablecoins, from a global customer base.”

The integration with Turnkey, a blockchain infrastructure provider, and Nuvion’s AI-powered global banking and payment platform, enables Flutterwave to offer a comprehensive embedded wallet experience, facilitating seamless transactions using stablecoin payments. This solution is currently being tested with a select group of merchants to ensure optimal performance. Once complete, USDC and USDT balances will be made available to all Flutterwave customers who have completed the necessary know-your-customer (KYC) and onboarding processes.

Bryce Ferguson, CEO and co-founder of Turnkey, noted that “Flutterwave has shown the transformative potential of stablecoins in helping people start and grow businesses globally.” He added that Turnkey is proud to power Flutterwave’s stablecoin payments and support their mission to empower the next generation of African innovators.

This partnership reinforces Flutterwave’s commitment to building Africa’s largest and most secure infrastructure for next-generation digital payments. By enabling businesses and consumers to transact stablecoins seamlessly, the company aims to streamline cross-border payments and unlock new financial opportunities across the continent. With this development, Flutterwave joins a growing list of leading payments, DeFi, and trading companies using Turnkey’s verifiable blockchain infrastructure for embedded wallets, transaction automation, and provable security.
