APC Predicts Opposition Coalition Collapse

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has expressed confidence that the opposition coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid will ultimately collapse. According to Seye Oladejo, the party’s spokesman, the coalition lacks cohesion and is driven by the personal ambitions of its members.

In a statement released on Friday, Oladejo emphasized that the arrangement is unstable and lacks a shared vision for Nigeria. He noted that the coalition is comprised of individuals who are unwilling to put aside their personal interests for the collective good. Oladejo stated that coalitions require compromise, but this particular one is hindered by a sense of entitlement among its members.

The APC spokesman pointed to the public ultimatums and pre-conditions issued by opposition leaders as evidence of deep divisions within the coalition. He observed that demands for guaranteed presidential or vice-presidential tickets have taken precedence over consensus-building. Furthermore, Oladejo noted that appeals for supporters to stop attacking one another suggest worsening internal hostility.

The opposition coalition’s fragility is attributed to the competing personal ambitions and mutual distrust among its members. Oladejo’s statement suggests that the coalition’s focus on gaining power has overshadowed any potential shared vision for Nigeria’s future. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the stability and effectiveness of the opposition coalition will be closely watched.

The APC’s assessment of the opposition coalition’s chances comes as Nigeria prepares for upcoming elections. The ruling party’s confidence in its own prospects may be seen as an attempt to project strength and unity ahead of the polls. However, the outcome of the elections will ultimately depend on various factors, including voter turnout and the ability of each party to mobilize support. For now, the APC’s statement serves as a reminder of the complex and dynamic nature of Nigerian politics.
