APC Predicts Opposition Coalition Collapse

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has expressed confidence that the opposition coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid will soon collapse. According to Seye Oladejo, the party’s spokesman, the coalition lacks cohesion and is driven by personal ambitions rather than a shared vision for the country.

In a statement released on Friday, Oladejo noted that the coalition is composed of serial presidential aspirants who are unwilling to put aside their individual interests for the collective good. He stated that the arrangement is unstable and lacks ideological depth, moral cohesion, or a shared vision for Nigeria beyond a desire for power.

Oladejo pointed out that the coalition’s fragility is evident in the public ultimatums and pre-conditions issued by opposition leaders, which have exposed deep divisions within the group. He added that demands for guaranteed presidential or vice-presidential tickets have taken precedence over consensus-building, while appeals to stop infighting among supporters have highlighted the worsening internal hostility.

The APC spokesman’s comments come as the opposition coalition continues to navigate its internal dynamics in preparation for the upcoming elections. The coalition’s ability to present a united front and articulate a clear vision for the country will be crucial in challenging President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The APC’s assessment of the opposition coalition’s chances is significant, given the party’s dominance in Lagos State and its role in national politics. As the election season approaches, the dynamics within the opposition coalition will be closely watched, and any signs of instability or division could impact the outcome of the polls.

The situation underscores the complexities of coalition-building in Nigerian politics, where individual ambitions and interests often intersect with party affiliations and ideological leanings. As the country prepares for the upcoming elections, the ability of political parties and coalitions to navigate these complexities and present a compelling vision for the future will be critical in shaping the nation’s political landscape.
