Kwankwaso Meets Supporters Amid Kano Governor’s NNPP Exit

In a significant development, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing internal crises within the party. This move has sparked a series of reactions, with the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, holding a meeting with various Kwankwasiyya groups at his residence in Kano.

The groups, comprising supporters from different parts of the state, gathered to reaffirm their loyalty to Kwankwaso and his political ideology. Addressing the gathering, Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of adhering to principles and resisting the influence of money or political inducements. He stated, “Our presence here today is based on ideology. If we had allowed greed to guide us, we would have been bought with money long ago.”

Although Kwankwaso did not directly mention Governor Yusuf or his defection, political analysts believe his remarks were a subtle response to the governor’s decision to leave the party. Earlier on Friday, Governor Yusuf formally announced his resignation from the NNPP in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The statement revealed that the governor had conveyed his resignation in a letter to the NNPP chairman in his ward at Diso, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

The developments have intensified political realignments in Kano, with analysts closely watching their implications for the state’s political landscape ahead of future contests. The NNPP has been a significant force in Kano politics, and Governor Yusuf’s resignation is expected to have far-reaching consequences. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the party and its leaders will respond to the challenges ahead.

The Kwankwasiyya movement, which has a strong following in Kano, is known for its grassroots support and ideological commitment. Kwankwaso’s emphasis on principle and loyalty is likely to resonate with his supporters, who are expected to remain steadfast in their allegiance to the party and its leader. As the situation unfolds, political observers will be closely monitoring the reactions of key stakeholders and the potential implications for the state’s political future.
