Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye vows legal action over copyright infringement

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye has escalated allegations of copyright infringement, vowing to pursue legal action over the alleged theft of her intellectual property. In a detailed post on her Instagram page, Ademoye explained that the controversy began after she discovered that monetization had been removed from her movie “Where Love Lives” due to a copyright claim filed by an individual identified as Emmanuel Davies.

According to Ademoye, a song used in the film, which she claims to fully own and used with the artist’s approval, was allegedly lifted and falsely claimed by Davies. This resulted in the removal of monetization and the redirection of revenue from the movie to Davies. Ademoye stressed that she operates professionally, conducting due diligence before releasing any project and paying for all soundtracks used in her films.

The actress reported the matter to the authorities and vowed to pursue justice, appealing to the public for any useful information about Davies. She also referenced a previous copyright dispute involving another individual, Anwuli, over her film “To Be a Friend,” which she declined to settle out of court. Ademoye stated that she is determined to see the current matter concluded through a court judgment, citing the loss of a previous movie that had garnered over six million views due to a similar incident.

Ademoye’s case highlights the ongoing issue of copyright infringement in the Nigerian entertainment industry. The actress’s determination to pursue legal action demonstrates her commitment to protecting her intellectual property and setting a precedent for others in the industry. As the case unfolds, it is likely to spark further discussion on the need for stronger copyright laws and enforcement in Nigeria.

The incident has also raised questions about the efficacy of current copyright protection mechanisms in the country. Ademoye’s experience serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and due diligence in protecting creative works. The outcome of the case will be closely watched, as it may have significant implications for the Nigerian entertainment industry and the broader creative sector.
